Modern Deaf Communication’s
ENGLISH-ACTIVE EMPLOYMENT FAIR

Employers will be hiring qualified deaf people who communicate face-to-face with hearing co-workers in English. Deaf employees will use face-to-face communication equipment in the workplace.

The jobs which will be emphasized at the English-Active Employment Fair will pay higher salaries and offer substantial job security among tens of thousands of employers who never before hired deaf people for any jobs. But now, with face-to-face communication equipment available to these employers, they are opening their doors to qualified deaf job applicants for all kinds of good new jobs in which deaf employees will communicate with their hearing co-workers in English.

They’ll be using face-to-face communication equipment in the workplace to deliver clear, exacting English to each other. In these jobs, English is the dominant workplace language. No interpreters will be present in the workplace.

English will be the language used at the Fair. There will be no interpreters providing assistance at the Fair. Face-to-face communication equipment wiill be available to both employers and deaf job-seekers in order for individuals from both groups to meet and learn about each other. A number of small tables with two pieces of equipment ready to be used will be available for this purpose. Employers will be identified by placards and name tags bearing their company names. Job-seekers will have filled out a brief Job-Seeker’s Fair Registration Form .which they’ll present to employers for their study.

The English-Activre Employment Fair is expected to generate much greater employer attendance and more job offerings than has occurred at other Employment Fairs for the deaf. Other Fairs were attended principally by “Deaf Friendly” employers with virtualy no attendance by the new employers. This Fair will be especially productive for qualified deaf job-seekers with English skills who have not been successful becoming properly employed. Employers are expected to offer jobs on the spot at the Fair.

A scheduled date for the English-Active Employment Fair has not yet been set or announced. The place of the Fair will be Orange, California.
