We’re just starting out.
WE NEED PEOPLE ON STAFF.
WE NEED DONATIONS OF FUNDS AND EQUIPMENT.
WE NEED PEOPLE. Right now, Modern Deaf Communication has one full-time active employee – me. I do not collect a salary. I use my own money to get things done which have to be done. I’m assisted by very capable people at SCORE who provide gratis service, and my Directors pitch in when they can, but MDC needs other people on staff full-time collecting salaries to give life to our Outreach Programs. Elsewhere in these pages is a call for experienced job placement counselors to join MDC. Job-placement counselors will be the backbone of our prime effort.to help qualified deaf job-seekers obtain English-active employment. And we will need educators who will help install the Writing Communication Method of English Instruction in schools for the deaf.
WE NEED DONATIONS. We need funds, of course. But we also need face-to-face communication equipment (modified TTYs) to place in the hands of deaf job-seekers for use in job interviews and, if hired, in the workplace. The equipment will be on loan to these people which they will return to us when their employers replace the equipment with equipment of their own. And we will need typewriters to give deaf children in start-up Writing Communication English Lesson Programs which they’ll use for writing homework and touch-typing practice.
We can use pairs of new equipment such as Walker-Ameriphone’s Q90D TTY, but we will accept used TTYs in good working condition which we will modify to become face-to-face communication equipment and still be used to make phone calls. The Q90D is currently priced under $200 in most retail outlets. Please keep in mind that pairs of modified TTYs must have the same operating voltage (6, 9 or 12 volts DC).
Your contribution will be appreciated. Should you have any questions, please contact:
